Solidarité Femmes ("Women supporting Women")

A black-tie Gala to benefit Solidarité Femmes Genève (Women Supporting Women) will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva on Wednesday, 22nd September 2010. In addition to 5* quality dining, guests will be entertained by a performance by world-class opera singers from the Solti Te Kanawa Accademia di Bel Canto (sponsored by Reyl & Cie) and a live auction conducted by Sotheby's Managing Director in Geneva. Tombola prizes include 5* and boutique hotel stays, gourmet dinners, designer accessories and cigars. The Gala will be attended by Geraldine Sundstrom, winner of the 100 Women in Hedge Funds 2010 European Industry Leadership Award and a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Brevan Howard Asset Management.

About Solidarité Femmes
Founded in 1977, Solidarité Femmes is a Swiss charity, which offers social and psychological support, shelter and mentoring to women and children affected by domestic violence. Recognised and supported by the State of Geneva, it counts many renowned public and private institutions among its supporters, including Cargill International, Migros Genève, Lions Club Genève, Omega, Loterie Romande. Although immediate assistance is offered to the mother and children, its programmes focus on the family unit and the importance of the role of the father.

Funds raised by 100 Women in Hedge Funds will go towards a project being led by Solidarité Femmes which will extend its knowledge of family problems arising from domestic violence into community services within Geneva. The objective of the training is to sensitise community, social and health workers to issues of isolation, post-traumatic stress disorder and breakdown of normal family relationships that are common in such situations and so to facilitate early detection of domestic instability and ensure that victims are properly and promptly assisted.

Announcing the decision, Claire Smith, Research Analyst, Partner, at Albourne Partners and Board Member of 100 Women in Hedge Funds Limited with responsibility for Switzerland, said, "Swiss members were impressed with the expertise demonstrated by the staff of Solidarite Femmes in tackling this difficult issue and welcomed the opportunity to support this outreach initiative that would permit frontline staff in Geneva’s social, health and education services to respond to a family in need in a more timely and appropriate manner. "
