October 25, 2013

HRH The Duchess of Cambridge presents Dame Amelia Fawcett, DBE with the 2013 100WHF European Industry Leadership Award

London - 25 October, 2013 - 100 Women in Hedge Funds ("100WHF"), a leading non-profit organization for professionals in the Alternatives industry, announced at its annual London Gala that it successfully raised over £600,000 (gross) in support of Action on Addiction, its chosen charity for 2013.

The 100WHF London Gala was held yesterday evening at Kensington Palace, with HRH The Duchess of Cambridge in attendance, in her capacity as an official Patron of 100WHF’s philanthropic initiatives. More than 250 leaders from across the alternative investment industry supported the Gala event. During the evening, The Duchess of Cambridge presented Dame Amelia Fawcett DBE, Chairman of the Hedge Fund Standards Board in London, with the 2013 100WHF European Industry Leadership Award in recognition of Dame Fawcett’s dedication to serving the financial services industry.

100WHF was honoured to host HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, who became a Patron of 100 Women in Hedge Funds' philanthropic initiatives for a three-year period in January 2013. 100WHF’s three-year partnership with The Charities Forum of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will focus on three specifically chosen charities, including Action on Addiction in 2013, and the focus reflects 100WHF’s three philanthropic themes of mentoring, women’s and family health, and education.

Action on Addiction is the only UK charity working across the addiction field in research, prevention, treatment, professional education and family support. Funds raised by 100WHF will specifically support the M-PACT (Moving Parents and Children Together) programme, which seeks to make a difference to children in families suffering the consequences of parental substance misuse.

"100 Women in Hedge Funds is thrilled to recognise the leadership and contributions of Dame Amelia Fawcett, whose outstanding achievements are well-known to those in the Alternatives industry in the UK and internationally. The London Gala is the highlight of our year-long UK philanthropic efforts and we are pleased to have raised such a significant amount to support Action on Addiction this year," said Kristen Eshak Weldon, Managing Director, Blackstone and Chair of the London Board of 100 Women in Hedge Funds.

Nick Barton, Chief Executive of Action on Addiction said, “We are thrilled at the generosity shown in the substantial funds raised by 100WHF at their Gala Dinner, in the presence of our Patron the Duchess of Cambridge. It was a wonderful evening, and we were delighted to be part of such a splendid occasion. It has been an honour and pleasure to have been 100WHF’s UK Charity of the Year for 2013 and we sincerely thank them for their support in helping us make our M-PACT (Moving Parents and Children Together) more widely available to children across the country who live with parental addiction. The money raised will help families affected by addiction undergo life-changing experiences.”
