100 Women in Hedge Funds to honor Dr. Marna Whittington, former CEO of Allianz Global Investors Capital, with its U.S. Industry Leadership Award at New York Gala

100 Women in Hedge Funds ("100WHF"), a leading non-profit organization for professionals in the Alternatives industry, today announced that Dr. Marna Whittington, formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Global Investors Capital, will be awarded the 100WHF U.S. Industry Leadership Award at its New York Gala, to be held on November 14, 2012.

Each year, 100WHF honors a woman whose professional talent, business ethic, and passion for investing help define and advance the Alternatives industry's standards of excellence. Past awardees include Afsaneh Beschloss, Rock Creek Group; Dorothy Collins Weaver, Collins Capital; Kathryn A. Hall, Hall Capital Partners; Sonia Gardner, Avenue Capital; Jane Mendillo, Harvard Management Company and Anne Dinning, The D. E. Shaw group.

Dr. Whittington recently retired as CEO of Allianz Global Investors Capital and COO of Allianz Global Investors, one of the largest asset management firms in the world. She began her investment management career in 1992 at Philadelphia-based Miller, Anderson & Sherrerd (MAS). Later, as Managing Partner of MAS, Dr. Whittington directed the sale of MAS to Morgan Stanley Asset Management, where she successfully integrated the two firms and later became a Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer.

Previously, Dr. Whittington was an Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The University of Pennsylvania, where she served from 1984 to 1992. Prior to The University of Pennsylvania, she was named Budget Director, and later Secretary of Finance, for the state of Delaware.

Dr. Wittington has also been a Board member for many well-respected organizations. She had been a Director of Rohm and Haas Company since 1989 prior to its sale, and has been an Independent Director of Macy’s since 1993. She also became an Independent Director of Phillips 66 earlier this year. Dr. Wittington is the incoming Chair of the Board of Trustees for Middlebury College and Trustee of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Dr. Whittington holds a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Mathematics from The University of Delaware, and earned her Masters and Ph.D. in Quantitative Methods from The University of Pittsburgh.

Commenting on the selection, Sandra Urie, CEO of Cambridge Associates and a Board member of 100WHF said,

Dr. Whittington will accept the award at the 100WHF Gala in New York City on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York. Proceeds from the New York Gala and other U.S. fundraising will support Donorchoose.org.
